Title: Shuumatsu dou datta? (How was the weekend?)
Description: My friend Jonathan Maxwell and I were supposed to create a skit performance in Japanese for our Spoken Japanese class at Kansai Gaidai University. Because we knew that it would be a hard undertaking to memorize 8 or so minutes of perfect Japanese text, we decided to ask Komura-sensei, if it is okay to actually make a short Japanese movie. Fortunately, Komura-sensei never had a group creating a short movie in his classes and he gave us green light. Jon and I started writing the script, of course in Japanese, and after a few days we started shooting the scenes. Since no one really had time or just wanted to help us filming, we had to test, check, set, direct, film, and cut everything by ourselves. Of course it was hard but more than that it was a lot of fun! We filmed within two days and cut the skit performance within two more days. Unfortunately, the sound is not good and well levelled but we did not have the necessary equipment to make that work. In the end, our group won the prize for best group performance what we did not expect. Komura-sensei did not regret that he gave us the opportunity to create this short movie. He found it very well done and asked us if it would be okay to use the skit as a reference movie for Spoken Japanese classes. We are still honored and amazed that a great teacher such as Komura-sensei found our movie that great! ... Oshietekuretearigatou!
